We’re happy to share that we’ve received a #TruistCares grant for COVID-19 pandemic relief.

That grant was passed through to two of our agencies that expressed a need related to the pandemic:

QAC Local Management Board

Backpack Committee. This committee serves bagged meals to food insecure children so they have food available on the weekends. This typically occurs when school is in session.

According to Shelby Clark, a Resource Development Specialist with Queen Anne’s County, “Last year the Backpack Committee distributed backpack meals to 414 students each weekend. This past weekend of April 10, there were 709 meals distributed! This very generous contribution will help us to continue our mission and to provide even more meals to children during this pandemic.”

Haven Ministries Essential Services are open.

Haven Ministries will continue to operate the homeless shelter, food pantries, and resource centers (intake is now by phone due to the new mandate).  The Haven Ministries revenues have been significantly cut – both of their stores are closed and their fundraisers are postponed.  Along with this, the need for assistance has increased.  An example of increased need is the food pantries where volunteers served 100 new people in March.  They also distribute emergency food daily.  Along with this, they are planning to extend the homeless shelter into the summer as per CDC and HUD recommendations, which is an unexpected expense.

“In this unprecedented time, we are committed to assisting the changing needs of families across the county and want to ensure that resources are readily available and known. Many want to help others by sharing urgent supplies, grocery shopping, phone calls, donating to specific needs or sharing their talents with others,” says Krista Pettit, Executive Director of Haven Ministries.
